Jack Drove The 357-Yard 18th Hole, 1970 British Open, Playoff
1970 Open Championship, St Andrews. The day before, Doug Sanders — the best-dressed man in golf — had missed a three-foot putt on the 72nd hole to win the Claret Jug. So now, an 18-hole playoff with Jack Nicklaus.
Sanders was four over and four behind after the 13th. He birdied the 14th and 15th, Nicklaus bogeyed the 16th, and suddenly the gap was one. They both parred the Road Hole. And they came to the 18th — 357 yards, downwind — separated by a single stroke.
Sanders drove just short of the green. Then Nicklaus took off his yellow sweater, handed it to his caddie, and pulled driver. He hit it dead at the pin. It landed on the hardpan, took off, and ran all the way through the green — 360 yards — into the rough at the back. Only the rough stopped it.
He chipped to eight feet. And made it. Then he threw his putter so high in the air that Sanders had to cover his head.

The second shot that Jack hit was absolutely disgusting! That is a severe downslope in the rough. Anything Could have happened there. And you didn't show the most important part. How they got to the playoff! Doug Sanders missed a 3-footer to win

Pity about Sanders. He won 20 events with that odd caddie swing–grew up really poor–and came so close in majors. A great player primarily remembered for that jabbed putt.

Imagine how far Jack would have hit the ball with today's modern ball and equipment pound for pound he has to be the longest driver of a golf ball in history.
