1986 | Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Jack Nicklaus’ Incredible Victory at the 1986 Masters

A documentary reflecting on Jack Nicklaus’ incredible victory at the 1986 Masters Tournament. 40 years later, Jack’s sixth Masters win still stands as one of the sport’s most iconic moments. Presented in partnership with @ROLEX, 1986 showcases why that golden Sunday will live on forever.

Since 1934, the Masters Tournament has been home to some of golf’s greatest moments. Amidst blooming azaleas, towering pines and flowering dogwoods, the first full week of April ushers in a stage unique to golf and to sport. Over four days and 72 holes, the smallest field in major championship golf competes for a chance to capture the Green Jacket and a place in Masters history.

  1. Awesome, I recorded, but forgot to change my save settings and it deleted before I was able to watch it.

  2. I remember watching this live in ‘86 on a 14” tv set. A few years later I bought the official video cassette of it and have watched it innumerable times. This may be better. Some of those CBS announcers calls from Melnyk, Venturi, Wright, Nantz and Lundquist are burned into my memory to this day, yes sir! Best-ever CBS golf team under the direction of the Ayatollah, Frank Chirkinian.

  3. 14 of the top 20 won a major in their career in that tournament. That's true talent that Jack beat that day. 3 feet total and could have shot 12 under in the final 12 holes. 12, 13, 14, 16, 18 he missed shots that could have gotten in. That's being in the zone

  4. Was not expecting this video today. I just happened to cast it on our Home Screen because “oh yeah. ‘86! One of the greats!” … edge of my chair, had to replay a couple parts to make sure I could believe my ears. What a legend and treat.

  5. I’m 67-the two greatest sporting events I’ve watched on TV were the 1986 Masters and 1973 Belmont, won by the incomparable Secretariat. Actually, now I think about it, Jack was incomparable too. There are other sporting moments that were great, but those two stand out for me.

  6. I rank this up in the top 5 of the best sporting moments I've witnessed in real time, as a Canadian. Also on the list:

Bobby Orr's 1970 Stanley Cup winning goal.
1972 Canada vs. Russia Summit Series and Paul Henderson's winning goal.
    The Miracle on Ice.
    Tiger's 2019 Masters.

  7. Conspicuous by his absence is Mr Norman in this trip down memory lane. I wonder why..

Actually, I don't. Norman folded under pressure at Augusta every single time.

  8. Excellent video! You know a tournament Iike this one still has meaning when people still talk about it 40 years later! It’s actually emotional seeing Arnold and Seve in this video!

  9. It was a shame Seve had to wait 10 minutes over his second shot at 15. Without that wait I'm fairly certain he doesn't knock it in the water. During the wait he changes club from a 5 iron to a 4 iron.

  10. You know, early on for most of that broadcast… Jack was barely mentioned… I've seen this replay about 4 times now, and it's still a tear jerker…when Jack and his caddie SON STEVE, embrace after the round… every father/son watching had tears… thanks for the memories Jack!😁👍✌️🙏

  11. 49 yo old man. This is my earliest memory of the game that has captivated me for decades. I remember watching this as a 9 year old with my late father, allowed to stay up late for it as a treat. Means more to me as the years come and go.

  12. I love Weiskopf’s line at 16. “ He’s gonna fire this right at the pin “. Chills everytime, that’s exactly what he did. Can’t flush a 5 iron any better than that. Wow

  13. The TV coverage of 1986 is a masterpiece of high drama.. and Jack deserves all the attention HOWEVER this has to be said, because it's equally if not more deserving is Gary Players final round comeback in1978 shot an 8 under 64, came from seven shots back with a 6 Birdie back 9 to win by a stroke.. the numbers are better than Big Jacks.. they are both legends it's just context..
