Michelle Wie West Returns and Gets Brutally Honest: “Golf Took Me to Dark Places Today”

Michelle Wie West returned to competitive golf at the Mizuho Americas Open, playing her first tournament round since 2023 — and she did not hold back afterward.

Wie West spoke with honesty and humor about the nerves she felt on the first tee, the difficulty of tournament golf, the challenge of the greens at Mountain Ridge Country Club, and why nothing truly compares to being inside the ropes under pressure.

With her husband on the bag, Michelle found positives on the back nine, shared a funny putting confession ahead of the U.S. Open at Riviera, and reflected on the full-circle moments with young fans watching from outside the ropes.

  1. Wie played almost 20 years on tour and had 5 wins, yet the stupid US media treats her like a superstar. Geez Michele, just go away please.

  2. First competitive round in three years, and ok, she goes 10 over. Putting her biggest drawback. None of it unexpected. That said, she doesn't employ a professional caddie? Mistake. She still has some good years left, if she wants to get serious about it. She's treating the Mizuho as a warmup for the U.S. Open, for which she has one year of exemption remaining. Not convinced she plans to play again after that.
