Why Are Tour Players Choosing Mallet Putters?

The trend of Tour players moving to mallet-shaped putters is clear for all to see. Scottie, Rory, Tommy, Justin Thomas, are all recent examples. But why are they changing? What are the benefits of mallet putters? Is the blade putter dead? Golf Digest’s equipment guru Jonathan Wall is here to answer all those questions.

  1. Fact of the matter is putting has gotten WORSE since mallets took over, theres soo little MOI in a putt because its a smaller club and a slower stroke that it really doesnt make a big difference.

  2. I don't know about stats and frankly don't care – I recently switched to a mallet and it fits my eyesight and feel better and I am more confident in my putting since the switch

  3. Looking at the data, there is essentially zero reason for amateurs to play blades anymore. Not to mention how easy the zero torque putters feel too, it’s really a no brainer.
