LIV Golf Henrik Stenson’s return to the DP World Tour in 2026. Former Open Champion Henrik Stenson is set to make a comeback to the DP World Tour in 2026 following his demotion from the LIIV Golf League. The 49year-old Swede has paid fines exceeding 1 million to the European-based circuit for participating in conflicting LIIV events. According to the website bunker, Stenson, who claimed the clar jug at Royal Trude in 2016, was one of the first players to join the Saudi Arabian funded two or three years ago, leading to his removal as Europe’s Ryder Cup captain for the 2023 match in Rome. After a disappointing LIIV campaign this year, he fell into the tour’s drop zone when he was surpassed by England’s Ian Palter in the final individual event. Stenson, who won his LIIV debut in 2022, finished 49th in the individual standings and was relegated. The 56 player LIIV circuit is implementing relegation to boost its credibility and potentially gain official World Golf ranking accreditation, which would enable its players to qualify for the four major championships. Stenson seems inclined to rejoin the DP World Tour next season rather than attempting to regain his spot on the main LIIV circuit. He acknowledges the natural eb and flow of a professional career, stating, “Over the course of a career, you’re going to have good years. You’re going to have bad years. It’s part of professional sport.” Stenson resigned from the DP World Tour in 2023. A week after Pala, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, and Richard Bland following sanctions for breaking rules when joining LIIV. The tour imposed bans of up to eight events and fines of up to 100,000 for each tournament regulation breach. Meanwhile, England’s Lorie Caner has become the first player to regain his eligibility on the PGA Tour after defecting to LIIV. Caner’s successful season on the DP World Tour allowed him to finish second in the PGA Tour eligibility rankings via the race to Dubai.
