Megan Khang Breaks Silence on Bryson DeChambeau’s Social Media Dominance | “He’s Changed the Game!”
Social media has become just as important to golf as the fairways and greens themselves. Flag and hole from Tiger Woods and Scotty Sheffller to Nelly Corda and Rory Mroy. Today’s golf stars have built massive online fan bases. And then there’s Paige Spyronac, the golfer who turned down a full-time LPGA career to become one of the biggest golf influencers on the planet. With over 4 million Instagram followers and 1 million on X, it’s safe to say she made the right call. Between viral clips and swing tips, social media has become golf’s new playing field. But not every pro is eager to play that game. And LPGA star Megan King is one of them. I in an exclusive interview with Essentially Sports, King opened up about her struggles to keep up with the social media wave and how Bryson Dshambo has completely changed the landscape. I’m actually pretty bad at social media, King admitted with a laugh. I know Bryson stepped up the game. He’s got his YouTube and his Tik Tok, and it’s really good quality, too. And she’s not wrong. Bryson Dambo has become one of the most influential golfers online. His YouTube channel has over 2.5 million subscribers, and he’s constantly teaming up with internet icons and celebrities to expand golf’s reach. From Kevin Hart and John Dailyaly to Donald Trump, Stephen Curry, and even Mr. Beast, Bryson’s collaborations have brought millions of new eyes to the game and made golf content cool again. King, on the other hand, admits she’s nowhere near as active online. I’ll admit, I don’t really post as often as I should. She said, “My last two posts were my birthday and wedding, and those were the first non-golf pictures I’d posted in months.” True to her word, her Instagram mostly features tournaments and practice photos. Her birthday post from October 24th, holding a champagne bottle and flashing a big smile, and her recent wedding pictures are rare glimpses into her personal life. Still, King isn’t ruling out a postretirement pivot to the digital world. Maybe after I’m done with my career, I’ll do a podcast, she revealed. Kind of like how the Manning brothers cover football where I can say, “Yeah, that’s not what she meant to do. That was an awful shot. A golf podcast hosted by a witty and insightful LPGA pro. That sounds like a winning idea.” Kang’s experience could bring fans a refreshing behind-the-scenes perspective, especially as more pros start blending competitive golf with content creation. And that shift is already well underway. The YouTube golf scene has exploded in recent years with the Internet Invitational, a $1 million event featuring online golf personalities leading the charge. It’s not just for influencers anymore. Current and former PGA and LPGA pros are joining the fun. Bryson Dashambo is at the forefront with nearly 480 million total views since launching his channel in 2020. His blend of challenges, collaborations, and competitive content has made him golf’s most watched YouTuber. Not far behind is Phil Mickelson, who officially joined the content game in mid 2024. The 45 time PGA Tour winners, breaking 50 series with Grant Horvat, has already drawn over 430,000 subscribers and millions of views per episode. His mix of instructional tips, interviews, and casual competition has shown fans a side of Lefty they’ve never seen before. Meanwhile, retired LPGA great Michelle Wi West has also hinted at joining the YouTube golf community. I love what all the content creators are doing. She said, “It’s bringing such a cool new face to the game. From Bryson’s cinematic challenges to Paige Spyronac’s influencer empire, the digital transformation of golf is undeniable. And as Megan Kang candidly admits, keeping up with that shift isn’t easy. But it’s also a sign of how much the sport has evolved that I in today’s golf world, swinging a club isn’t the only way to make an impact. Sometimes it’s about knowing how to hit record.
