Justin Rose Driver Swing Analysis Slow Motion The Open

Justin Rose he’s been on the Golf Scene for a long time and he was very competitive at this year’s British Open he’s got a great swing and let’s see how it stood the test of time since his initial introduction to the golf world in 1997 so if we look at setup Justin’s got a really nice setup here pretty neutral in his grip maybe a little bit strong in that left hand nice bit of foot flare I talk about a lot about that a lot most guys will have that you’ll see from down the line neutral spine little bit of knee Bend arms hang beautifully below the shoulders there you’ll notice with Justin he’s got that tilt with the driver little bit unusual with the head move there most guys would be a little bit more on an angle you can see how that head The Gaze is sort of down this way whereas most guys will have a little bit more tilt in the head so much subtle that I’ve noticed there and then let’s bring him to that takeaway so if we look firstly from down the line I want you to notice look how he starts to move into the heels there so he almost starts on his toes and then can you see how those heels drop down that just helps him load back into the glutes and it’s a little bit of a trigger move see that subtle move you can see how it moves him back so let’s get rid of those lines let’s put him in that traditional takeaway position you’ll see see that I mean the the camera is not perfectly down the line but it illustrates it quite nicely you can see how that takeaway is pretty much there one piece Club head outside the hands Club face pretty much square to the back line very very standard takeaway there from Justin now if we look at in face on you’ll see he doesn’t have a huge amount of lateral movement like a lot of guys you’ll see he’s more rotates into that trail hip so subtle bump not a huge amount like somebody like Rory and then we’ll bring him there now he’s very very stable here you’ve not seen a huge amount of rotation through the hips or the Torso just nice and stable there from Justin little bit of Bend in that trail arm just very very stable through the hips there if we take him back to lead on Parallel you’ll see how he works those hands really nice and deep a lot of guys would be more in the center of the chest but you’re really working those hands behind him there let’s look from Face On Again look those hips haven’t rotated traditionally as much as you’d maybe see from some guys but what you’ll notice is look at those those creases on his pant pocket although he’s not really rotating his hips low as ears rotating around this FEMA bone here so he’s really loading into that trail HIIT there you’ll see how he sets the club very nicely there some guys are more here like the winner Xander shle but just has a little bit more wrist set than some guys very very traditional really like 90° Adam Madam Scott’s more like that a lot of the younger guys now you’re seeing they don’t get as much wrist set because they really load it on the down swing but if we bring him up to the top here you’ll see how he starts to flex that lead knee a little bit more you can see this for me is justtin traditional sort of position that you see he’s got quite a lot of knee Flex in that lead knee those hands are nice and deep That Elbow that trail elbows little bit lower than the left elbow here he’s got a nice deep position there you’ll see how that club face is pretty much pretty much bang on Parallel to his lead arm there very very neutral position from Justin doesn’t do a lot of funky things we’ll bring him up to the top again you’re not seeing huge amounts of rotation you can see by that lead shoulder there bring him up to the top little short of parallel I just love that motion there very very stable let’s have a look at Justin’s first move down now so he’s going to see a real Drive look at that lead HIIT drive down down there the hands sort of he works on this a lot his hands almost just drop you’ve probably seen uh there’s a great video on YouTube of him just just doing this motion of feeling like his hands drop and his chest stays pointing at the camera so what’s happening here is watch how those he sort of just shifts down and then those hands are just going to almost drop straight down you see how they pretty much drop straight down here now this for me is where justtin can get in a little bit of an issue with his back I love to see him on 3D but for me that right hip is just a little bit higher than his left here now it’s going to be higher but for me I just think he doesn’t Flex that trail KNE quick enough in down swing so I think I’d love to see him on 3D but i’ i’ imagine that his Trail hit you can see there how he just gets a little bit high and how that that trail leg is a little bit less Flex than the the left leg here so what that can can cause is a little bit of this pelvis working this way which can cause a little bit of compression down that right hand side of the spine so I’m assuming that’s where his back pain comes from would love to see it on 3D but that’s something that’s played Justin throughout his career but in terms of the position you’ll see how he’s dropped those hands nicely here so in terms of where the club it is what a lovely position Club face is nice and neutral That Elbow is below the shoulder here that shaft is beautifully dissecting the forearms nice and on Plain so just from a club position just love that position I just love to see Justin with a little bit more KNE Flex in the down swing you’ll see look how he’s maintained the angle here Trail elbow below below the lead elbow love that position there you can see how again look how that that right hip subtly high for me let’s bring him down a few more frames look how he’s maintaining that angle loads of loads of lag love that position when people say the take the hands out of the golf swing you don’t want to take the hands out of the golf swing because we want to maintain that lag there great position if we look from down the line You’ll see how that shaft is pretty much parallel to his Target line there love love love that position you can see a little bit with his neck how he’s sort of facing away again that might cause a little bit of strain through his back and that might be related to setup how he noted he’s got that funky little setup position let’s bring him a couple more frames down look how he’s just maintaining that angle you’ll see from here as well look how that trail hip starts to drive up and back what can you see it starts sorry lead lead hip starts to drive up and back there see how much it’s elevated great way of developing power and then you’ll also notice watch that it’s like a piston almost watch that trail trail arm Bend and then boom Bend straight and there’s a tremendous amount of speed of that bend and then straight there you’ll notice look how his neck is really pointing back here that’s going to cause a little bit of torsion through the spine you can see that there I’d really think with his setup position I’m guessing Justin is left eye dominant you probably wouldn’t see that position with right eye dominant because his gaze would be way out there so I’m thinking Justin’s probably left eye dominant here and then lovely impact position like I say look from look how that trail elbows bent and then straightens straightens out nicely creates loads of speed if we bring in a few more frames you’ll start to see look how much extension through those arms is then creating tracing that ball down the line You’ll see as well I want you to take note of how Justin’s foot sort of rolls over on that ankle a lot of that’s due to some instability through that ankle is very sort of fixed in the ankle position so he has to roll that ankle over you can see how it sort of slides as he’s pushing back and then really Ro loads into the heel and then you’ll see loads of extens ion keeps his head down for quite a long time he start to see now and he he exits quite high for somebody who who has the club so deep in the back swing so you can see how those hands start to come out above his shoulder here really really high you see how he’s maintaining that position through his spine loads and loads of width and you’ll notice how Justin really holds that finish position really nicely you can see also how much he’s rolled onto the ankle just a great great golf swing he has had some back injuries he’s been unlucky in a couple of major specifically the Masters and the British Open in 2024 but he’s what 4344 just a great great player and he’s really stood the test of time
