Michelle Wie West’s life on the course started at a young age
So when you were like obviously young female, how did your parents help you with that process? Oh, they helped me with everything. They really kept me grounded and you know I was fortunate um that I I mean we all grew up in the time where we didn’t have social media. You have to do the AOL like modem like mom get off the phones. I’m on aim you know we all went through that era. These kids nowadays don’t know any of that. So I was fortunate when you know I was playing in PJ tours I didn’t there was no Instagram or Twitter there. you know, mean people couldn’t reach out to me unless they physically wrote me a letter or um some mean reporter wrote a mean article about me, like unless I signed on to AOL and Googled my name, which I never did. So, fortunately, like I was pretty sheltered. My parents never took me out of school. I had an opportunity to go to IMG Academy full-time, but my parents, they put a real emphasis on my social life and on my normal life. They try to keep me normal as much as possible. So, I went to my normal high school, my normal middle school, had my normal friends who still to this day know nothing about golf.
