welcome back to episode two of the 2v2 series with myself and Phil Mickelson today’s guest well needs no introduction it’s going to be faster than my divorce right here son don’t underestimate your father at 290 son like that getting it getting through it and not going to get in we’ll go to the next home go in hello welcome to my world gentlemen that hurt too by the way that’s the hardest I’ve swung in 10 years they’re going to show up 30 minutes before our T time Phil okay perfect I’m actually surprised that they’re getting here that early knowing that John when he when I played with him and he won the BC open in 1992 didn’t hit any range balls showed up 15 20 minutes before he teed off h a few putts he’d rifle one ball off into the tree somewhere across the across the parking lot and then he’ go te off and he won that’s what I’m expecting today weo car from yesterday probably right around 9:45 no worries yeah yeah we tea off we can tea off probably just after 10: there’s probably no no R yeah we’re good all right all right see I should have told them 9 know 9 was the tea time well I told them to get there at 9: actually should have told them eight it’s in character though it is it’s also uh down in the small print of Phil’s book of rules like it’s okay I’m the most impressed with this driver I mean something you put a new shaft you put a new head on it you found this combination that is just really working it feels good yeah I feel like I’m hitting it pretty straight there’s not a big Miss in it right it’s been really good they’re dropping off the rental car they said they’ll be there at 10 9:45 but what is it 950 that’s great this is perfectly on brand so we’re just going to basically say hey got it to’ yeah we can maybe take that early oneup lead we’re actually scouting out the course right now waiting for the dailies we’re driving up the first hole here fun fun little starting hole it is it’s a great starting hole and it looks like if I do drive it with a pin in the center the right bunker is a little tougher than the left so I’d want to be a little long or left y if anything yep why don’t we put a tea in the ground so they get the point yeah there he is here he comes here he comes there we go rock all right there he is hey don’t blame me don’t blame me you made it pretty Place had to drop off a rental car traffic was a nightmare welcome to the daily family what’s good to see D oh look at here we had to all the best look it is that there you go honey we’re on the first tea yeah we been on the tea for 30 minutes what’s up my man look all right let’s rock and roll you ready for this I’m ready for something all right this is just like the 1992 BC open when you came out and you won and you never went to the range or hit warmup balls did you even hit one or two by the pting green I didn’t know there was a range there you go no you said you had to drive somewhere and I drive somewhere for a range I ain’t going nowhere or for range balls is what Phil we had those spikes the metal spikes and everybody’s coming in the spikes got frozen ice on them I was sitting there drinking hot chocolate first tea he’d go hit a few putts show up 15 20 minutes before he tea off uhuh grab a grab a drink hit a few pots and go and that was it and you drove it so great on a course that was tight yeah and you just took that driver on every hole guys were hitting irons and stuff you just blasted it and dominated and we still play that course okay well we usually we’ve you know we’ve let our guests tea off first why don’t we why don’t we do this since I haven’t played here either so Grant’s the only one that played the the green is over there it’s somewhat drivable into the wind I don’t know if it will be why don’t you hit a few you can we’ll uh we’ll give you a couple of moles if you want just blast it get your power puff out there I go for it where do I go here I mean just set the you might not even need one the green is uh maybe 280 300 over uh over these palm trees yeah but you can just go probably right at the bunkers okay I you know I don’t hit it far anymore it’s good you know I’m old I’m not Phil power out there get and play I’ll do something that’s too far left ain’t it yeah I think it’s in play though is it is it yeah maybe not I’m good I’m good two man scramble today rock you good for that two man scramble match play mhm oh beautiful son yeah so that’s that’s perfect John I mean I think you this win it’s going to be right in the Fairway yeah 30 yards right front that’s great range a range really good range is wasted property you know how much condos and houses you can build on a driving range yeah that’s fair that’s fair you sell dollar balls huh why they te off I’m a roll but we all putt all right Phil here we go let’s part don’t let them get in our heads now no no they’re in that was an amazing appearance just a walk up we can drink alcohol right perfect y oh Beauty there yeah that’s pretty good be right Phil okay this isone wow this is uh this is different from our first match but I’m here for this is awesome I wasn’t sure how the tone of the match is going to go and I feel like it’s been set okay we figured it out it’s going to be a good time today guys Buckle in see how many likes we can get for having John Daly and his son as a team together um on the channel I’ll tell you one thing I don’t know I’ve ever seen somebody hit a ball that quick I mean he did one waggle no practice swings and just hit it oh I went over green oh you did Nice Shot Phil little bunker shot I love bunker shots my favorite shot in golf so I think that we I mean I think both spot both are good fod yards fod uh-oh oh there back stop there uh not when you th it but no that’s pretty bad I get it but hey nice get on up there shot son that work I’ll take it so there’s all this slope left to right early you know and and you may want to use that if you want I I’m going to try to fly it a little bit further and take that out I’ve got cuz we have a good lie okay and uh I can open the face and my cut spin is working back into the slope right to help stop it so rather than hit a releaser I’m going to try to just fly it a little close to the hole and stop it oh go in hello hey hey hey pick ours up will you we’ll go to the next hole we should probably work on that that’s not the strongest move yeah pH we got to work on that okay that’s a start oh my gosh that’s a start should we go to number two yeah I got that before you pH here go I don’t even know what to do right now you know I don’t either that’s the Phil melson I know thank you sir mhm wow I hit a blade and Phil holds it out I think that’s about right be perfect I thought I’d set them up but you know you can’t win money if you don’t press you know there you go Philly thank you sir we got to work on that um we need to figure this out this is like yeah our handshake is probably the Le the the weakest part of our this partnership I and that’s okay if that’s the weakest part that’s okay we can there’s always room for improvement there I don’t have much better though it’s the problem we we got to come up with Phil that was just that was awesome do you know that uh our opponents have only had the honors on the first hole in both matches so far yeah that is that is crazy to there’s 17 go ahead and keep chirping son go keep I’m just spewing facts John that’s all I’m doing just the facts man just the facts turn turn turn it’s coming keep turning oh right there okay bunker I think we’re right you got I got my five my little trusty five hybrid you kids will get there one day no I’m looking forward to a full set of those one day hang on Baby hang on oh that’s got to hang that’s going to be right on commentating that was pretty cool I mean he just I mean he’ talk to the exact shot I was going to hit ex hit there a few players in the world that I don’t want to go up against with the wedge it’s you and the guy we’re playing yeah no I went long where am I short no you’re right there I’m just on the Fring I think we play yours just putting yeah maybe Get Back Square through two I think it’s possible okay I need some water these are water correct water water I think that’s the number one cause of cancer water it’s been a while huh it has I’ve see you guys at the tournaments but it’s you know you come on our CH on a s Champions Tour win two three first three events and okay I think I’ll go play Liv okay bye you going to chip this one in too no I I don’t want to Overkill I don’t want to like ruin the whole mood for the day this early I want to see you chipping in so I’m deciding if I if I want to like try to go high and fly it on and get to try to stop quick or if I want to like bump it into the hill what are you seeing Phil I’m seeing whatever you’re seeing okay how about for yourself well how would you play how are you going to play I’m going to probably land it just short okay I’m going to why don’t you go ahead why don’t you go first y yep because that’s a safer play If you hit a solid one where I think we’ll make the PT I’ll fly one on and give it a better chance to go in okay so I’m trying to land it yeah right up here in this just short in this Fringe area it should kill it I actually wouldn’t play it too that far left because I think that it’s actually going thought about doing this for a living no I haven’t I have not John played in college and then that was it after that that was perfectly struck I’m going to open the face a little more and try to fly it just on if I can but uh you sure I I probably would have done the shot you did if you didn’t hit it I think you go for it we got nothing to lose oh yeah Phil Phil Phil Phil really I don’t know if you know this I’m actually okay with wedge really I wouldn’t expect anything different really huh let’s be tie through too this is hard to this is hard to play against really really welcome to my drama no drama in life no more I was happy with our start hit a good t- ball good second shot and we’re two down hey what can you do so John A lot of people are probably going to be like he’s putting with one hand he doesn’t care per se he actually putts with he likes to I’ve seen him do it a bunch he likes to putt with one hand it frees up so he get he doesn’t get that rear hand so the rear hand when you get on the putter you can’t extend as far as you can with just your lead hand right so he can just kind of drag it he likes to drag it and hold he kind of putts he’s always done that looks like it’s me against Phil today oh my gosh I got I got my partner drinking hitting putts one-handed yeah we got uh Phil just we take this serious just odd just curry with the wedge right now yeah this we take this very Ser three yeah all right Phil we got a little Par Four to the left here two up after two good start yeah don’t rub it in kid my god really wait let’s get this clear fills two up hug the left side a little bit yeah yeah I I’ll probably go a little safer to the right of it and then you can get aggress right at the building then yep yep you can’t feel it but there’s some pretty good left to right wind but these trees on our left F it’s it’s in Play It’s just is not ideal uhhuh that’s not that’s not good is it that’s we’re going to be over near each other does go that way right no it goes left left okay yeah yeah all right Dad for you probably just hit a cut over the edge of this big tree right there right is not good like where they are that’s right the hole goes left this my little baby puff yeah are we relative that tree are we past it about right there that’s good for me perfect line Fairway yeah Powder Puff out there it’s good it’s perfect oh boy well that’s that’s good should be good right that’s a little too far left stolling isn’t it but it’s still might it might carry it all it could you hit it so hard man that’s nice just didn’t it cut it didn’t cut like I wanted to I tell you you hit your line yeah I did just didn’t cut everything going to be out right in the morning when I drink my John daily and drink it so fine 137 hurting a little 137 well looks like hole outs s the play today cut a little come on cut a little cut yeah good shot is yeah it’s on what you hit I just hit a little nine be right come on cut ah just short the same as mine huh no yours is good I’m short it’s 124 but with this kind of hurt in left to right I think with the draw with you shut in the face you just go ahead and hit like a good one it’s going to be perfect I love that oh overdid it Phil over did it no worries I’ve never seen a cook a ball yeah turn that face down I needed to so I’m hitting you know obviously I have to open the face to hit a little cut and with added spin in the wind uh I have to drop down to a seven so that I don’t have to swing as hard cuz I don’t want it ballooning up you know I was almost thinking six but I think that’s going to be a little too hot so so the Miss if anything is actually to the right as well yeah I’ll keep it a little right and I’ll have it working low right to left and it’ll it’ll side sauce across the green a little bit too so I love that oh Phil that is so good that is so good I hope that’s is that okay it looks so nice I didn’t want it left to the hole Yeah but it was fading really softly in there had a lot of spin on it boy he hit that nice after watching two chip-ins it’s kind of hard to get yourself back in it but probably brought him he knows how to do that sometimes we’ll see I have a reason to line up my ball now I’m not watching this guy chip in we have a chance to like maybe win a hole I don’t know but we have to play the hole so I can draw my line all right good shot there yeah nice one thank you thank you here we go Phil so this is just like we were practicing on the exactly hotting grain practice we were here an hour and a half early John really yeah I I try to get him here at least by 9:15 but we had some traffic issues we had to turn in a car we had to do this you know I mean I get it I get it all right Phils this is a drippy you know let fall in there kind of deal it swings but let’s uh still though let’s try to bury it you know what I mean like let’s do it with some Authority here oh got it low Got It Low we have a chance we have a chance son darn it all right kind of like my life unreal ah baby it okay have the hole all right we tied a hole we tied a hole progress progress progress I felt like I was actually worried that we we were going to have the first hole we’ve ever lost yeah that actually would have been the first hole Yeah is it possible to go all six matches never losing a hole I be our goal it’s a lie the the streak is a lie you guys been kicking everybody or what we had yesterday yeah pretty much did yall win yeah we did it was a good DJ and his brother awesome yeah I remember you telling me to never walk in puds so I stopped doing it right what the hell was that why you walking in puds well I just thought I made it I thought I helped you thought I help there’s one person in the world that can walk in P get away hey I’m just the saddle you’re the horse okay I get it but my God I thought I could help you here we go John you guys want red carpet to that uh tea box or all right dog right like right I don’t know it looks good looks good is that perfect or too far right little right Phil should be okay though so you want to go just a little left to that okay so tell me you said you’re going to cut some albums John yeah six of them off the Sol score I’m writing six more music’s become a really big part of your life hasn’t it I love it I ain’t worth the you know what at it but I love it yeah I ain’t in for the money what do you enjoy the most most from it just it’s a good way to get my stuff out to the fans yeah you perform at a lot of places don’t you yeah when you’re playing and singing and stuff do you feel more at piece or the writing part about you know it’s like how you get a new set of clubs or somebody that hits their first solid golf shot man you hit that note on a guitar you’re going hey I think I can write a song about you know yeah yeah you’ve had a lot of Life Experiences too so just a couple you got a lot to write about John what what’s one uh Little John what’s one thing that uh your dad has a lesson in life that your dad’s taught you that’s really suck with you golf you know just have fun with it it’s it’s a it’s hard anyway it’s going to keep getting harder but life just basically be yourself yeah don’t let people tell you what to do what not to do do what you want to do well you got a lot of people a lot of friends in the world a lot of people have said a lot of great things yes sir I just told him do the opposite of me you’ll be fine and that one I forgot that one he didn’t want to say that one I didn’t want to say that one so I knew he was going to pop it a few times today oh oh Phil that’s so good well thank you we’ll be taking that that is as Prime as you could hit it right there feels good to see when come off you see in Jersey that’s perect that’s pretty p d y right some time in the offseason I’m starting to drive it better as we’ve seen and if I can keep driving it well and pop well like it’s going to be a really good year yeah that’s what I’m feeling yep so we always rolled the ball with an incredible tight roll and they they’re always hunting yeah they just don’t go in like they do for you you know well I haven’t coach coach L you know you told me one time in college we’re working on putting and we’re doing drills and stuff he goes your problem is you roll the ball too good goes right through the break told me that he says you roll the ball too good I much go right with me it’s there it’s just not a very good shot okay is that eight no I just cut a little seven I think it’s a perfect nine for you to be honest with you oh yeah oh yeah good looking come on short no that’s P High Bud shot that’s a good swing is that nine yeah that’s a big I would to hit eight but see when I was your age I would hit a little 3/4 wedge but I won’t say anything about that wait so these aren’t your Diet Cokes right here uh well we got here and there was like three or four right here here a million here couple in there I’m like you know I’m a Diet Coke fan but like normally like a couple after like a golf round dinner there’s like one two I’m like you know getting in the course rushing no warm up like I need a sip of water yeah you know I was like where can I find a dang water have you ever seen your dad drink water yeah he does do it a lot though yeah it it’s actually insane cuz I don’t know how it functions yeah all right Phil uh yeah these are the ones where you just just make them you will them in the hole like you say so this looks like it kind of swings right there the last 15 ft y it almost moves left early but the last half it it it swings to the right okay not a ton but it does move and I don’t feel like it’s too I feel like this is one we can be assert of like let’s go hit the phony hole you know what I mean yeah so how far out are we left to right well I want to let you kind of feel it like if you’re going to just hit the hole and not really worry about making it yeah like how how far left do you feel like you got to hit it right right okay I like that these are the ones Phil we just got to do it because uh oh Phil you’re going have to lag it and make sure for that par now here’s your uh you got a little work left there kid yeah that’s a lot of we we don’t we don’t lag though no yeah that’s I I want you putting like that though we’ll make those I want you putting aggressive Beauty oh fell whoa you put one-handed all day there not losing a hole what happens we lose a hole I never thought we’d lose a hole hand W this golf gets drinking here we are doing it yeah yeah here we are great but if you guys want to just take a moment and enjoy the fact that you’ve won that this is the first hole anybody’s ever beaten us on we all played one match calm down but you know what you can write that in the record book on yall’s um Channel first hole we’ve ever lost first hole you ever lost right there you ever talk to Rocco Much Anymore yeah well I haven’t seen him in a little while so we’re playing Wisconsin got him and and Tim Heron l we were playing uh it’s three or four years ago I shot 65 at Wisconsin and putted one-handed Rocco goes I just got beat by a one-handed putting man and Roco played really good so let me ask you I think I know why you do it why do you do it cuz I know I’m going to follow through and I know I’m going to get a better pH said cuz that rear hand holds you back yeah it’s restricting it gets your wrist popping and stuff but that’s why I always get a bigger grip you know you get a bigger grip the left arm goes through and you’re basically taking the wrist the back of your wrist as as the face and just taking it to the Target without resistance yeah so that’s why I like the claw because once I took the bottom for me the bottom hand off it’s not holding on it pushed it through without the resistance that’s why I like the claw yeah yeah that’s why everybody I I just never could get the claw but you PP free yeah onehanded babe yeah just get one in play I’ll try and bomb it yeah it’s a straight dog leg left the Green’s over there to the left so take it out there to those like the S of those three palm trees somewhere over there all right then right there shot Beauty John wow he did right I’m hoping I just down for two seconds and that right down the middle good shot John oh right that’s got to carry a long ways I was going for it wor shot not the green that could be okay fair way there is a chance that that is okay I don’t know if that water ends or not but so I got 312 carry that should be perfect Phil I think elj is fine I don’t know it’s close M was a little too far left so I just lasered it 312 you see the corner yeah no I I mean there there’s Hur I can’t I can’t fly that far oh yeah nice hang on oh Phil that’s great should be perfect I think it’s okay a little 50 I’m just going to chip it otherwise this is going to spin back in the water 108 yep I cut it too much go go little short TI I cut it just a little too much I’m just a saddle you’re the horse son that is one line that I’m getting tired of I don’t know why so I hear it 75 times a day it’s the truth oh that was so nice sit sit that was so nice come on SP a hair thin was nice stay under the wind we have 101 yards I was going to hit a sand wedge Phil backed me off and said no you need to hit a gap wedge and I 100% agree here just a lower now the wind kind of switched it feels like it’s more like it’s right but either way it is hurting still and we don’t want to hit a if you have to hit sandwich you have to hit it full we don’t want to hit a full shot I want to just drive this in low which is going to be a little hotter and less Spin and drive through the wind I have to cut it so instead of like um I’m just going to shape it more and use so I can use more right side of the green
