ロリー・マキロイとスコッティ・シェフラーのスイングの決定的な違い! | Audi Performance Zone

Welcome back and a very warm welcome into our Audi performance zone. Now, for the first time ever, we have the ability to compare players swing side by side. So, we’re going to kick it off with none other than the world number one and two, Scotty Sheffller and Rory Maroy. I’m going to show you both what they do in a very similar fashion and what they do quite differently as well. So, let’s start with what they do in a similar fashion. It’s all to do with the chest turn to the top of the back swing. So if I take them up to the top of their back swing, you’re going to see that they get 103 and 106° respectively. The tour averages 87°. So that is a huge amount of chest turn to the top of the back swing. And that’s sort of where the similarities end. Now, if we start to look at what is different, I’m going to 3D avatar them here. We’re going to see that the chest sway is already different to the top. Pelvis sway is very similar, which means they’re not moving laterally with their pelvis. Rory is not moving laterally with his chest. He is purely rotating. But Scotty has the nice high hands and he is moving with his chest by 3 in from a dress to the top of the back swing. Okay, now let’s go from the back swing down into impact. And these numbers change massively. Pelvis sway is 6° 6 in sorry on average on tour. Scotty gets almost 10 in of pelvis sway into the ball. So that’s that foot movement that we’re used to seeing. Now, if I return them back to their 2D selves, these red lines that I drawn at the start, and I know the camera angles are ever so slightly different. However, if we look at how much I had it in the elbow of each player, just how much they’ve shifted here down into impact. That’s quite a huge difference. And we can see with the footwork of Scotty Sheffller, the Sheffller shuffle that we’re so used to, but we see how that’s rotating out as he’s swaying sideways with his whole body a huge amount. That’s how he gets his uh compression. It works really well for him, but it is actually less efficient than how Rory moves his body rotationally in terms of speed and sequencing, which should be foot, hip, and upper body swaying and rotating. So, essentially the story that it’s telling is both players have this superpower of a huge coil on the way back. But the difference for Scotty is that it’s slightly less efficient technically because he’s got that side sway.

  1. Scottie’s swing is really ugly and unorthodox.
On the other hand, Rory’s swing is classic and powerful.
In my opinion, though, if you want to stay clear of possible injuries, both Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen have swings that are exquisite and if one wanted to copy a golf swing, it would be any one of those two!

  2. This swing comparison was over before it started. Rory hitting driver, Scottie hitting a wood off the deck.
