水曜夜のライトウィンドコーチング
On Wednesday nights at Clinton Lake, we assign our coaches to train skippers. Here is my first session with Adam Gerber. Adam is a new Flying Scot owner and is working so that he can skipper in the upcoming Glow Regatta. He has come a long way in a short period of time and just need more tiller time and some coaching. Here we are racing short 1-lap races at our Wednesday night beer can racing. We win the race because we saw the wind and stuck to our strategy in spite of a horrendous start. Throughout the day, Adam learned how to feather the boat in wind puffs, push the tiller away smoothly when tacking and steering, and use big arm pulls to get the spinnaker hoisted more quickly. One big takeaway is to remember to relax and be smooth when approaching the mark and sailing around other boats. That is when you need to the most focused on sailing fast. New and intermediate sailors are too easily distracted and often suffer from “target fixation”, which doesn’t help you sail fast. I hope you enjoy the video. If you live in Central Illinois and want to sail with us on Wednesdays nights, we do this every week.
