I Played The Most DIFFICULT Golf Course in England!!! Nicklaus’ Beast
Join me as I take on the mighty St Mellion Signature Course with tight landing areas, rock-lined water hazards and tour-standard tiered greens, it’s a true test of every part of your game.
From the championship tees — I play all of the 7,054 unforgiving yards of it. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and once home to the Benson & Hedges International Open, this Cornish beast is as tough as they come.
This isn’t just a round of golf — it’s a battle against one of the UK’s most challenging layouts. Let’s see how I fare from the very back tees on a course built to challenge the best in the world.

I’m really sorry for a couple of the cuss words left in this. I’ve asked for all of them to be removed but it looks like it’s been missed in the edit, this won’t happen again 🙏
For those not entirely familiar with the course, James played the back 9 first. your second shot on 1 was inspired!!!
Foff you Cbomb on 16 😂. We’ve all been there
Flyer lie count: 153
i heard flowers got the course record here 😮
Used to play the Nicklaus Course 20 years ago, and to be fair a good scratch score from the tips would be staying in the seventies. The front 9 is much harder than the back 9. Good luck 🤞
Alfie Solomon impression is very good 😂
Hardest and most frustrating course I have played, but also very satisfying.
I'm an old man😊
was that a Tulip or maybe another Flower(s) recording here
Great course, almost identically birdied the first to you, then it all went t*ts up from there
Birdie on 10 is disgusting, well played
Is that a white plastic tee for the driver? No judgement, just used to seeing people use pink or orange. great video, amazing course.
35.58 had me laughing 😂 ONE OF US!
Very much doubt i'd break 100 on this course but it has been a course i have wanted to play for years.
My home course but have never played from the very back tees. Big cojones!
Played there a,week after it opened, cart paths and Long rough almost down to the, fairways. In those days the tees we're tiny and better than most greens . Still looks a great test .
The pros used to play the benson & hedges there with wooden drivers and balata balls
Hole 1 looks a lot like Hole 10 at St Mellion 🤔
Hey James, really enjoyed watching this one,.. Got to be the toughest course on the planet!.. Is it the hardest course that you've ever played??..
Played mellion loads and that 2nd shot on the first was unreal from there 😂
Thing is with this course. Tight, punished if long or missing greens. In America it’s just blast driver and find it all the time. A true test of golf ❤
long time watcher of the channel, hate to see it go this way and granted this is a tough track. But i always find myself thinking what chance did you leave yourself today. Every hole you spoke yourself into the negative, and just focused on everything other than doing something positive. Every shot whether its with driver, irons, wedge is always different, theres never two of the same thing. I'm a 2 handicap so im not in your league but i recently found myself playing for shots that look good when they come up but my golf was everywhere, i got boring and got better again. The putting is by far your best attribute and its because you do the same thing repeatedly. but then you get on your back and compound the pressure elsewhere when you hit good putts and they don't drop, the "oh is me" came out on hole 2.
One minute you are accepting the draw swing from liam because its been the natural shape, and now you're back trying to cut some, draw some, etc. I know stuff is shot dependant, but i would love to see you play the most boring round of golf with a caddy, middle of green yardarges and nothing else, one stock shot and ball flight regardless of the wind and so on, love the intro of the camera man interactions and i think this should make life easier for you to just focus on the golf and let him prompt the questions
top drawer
That birdie on 17 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Saw you at the course at the back of the 18th. You looked good mate.
Had the best 9 holes of my life on the front 9 there (years ago..) and shot a gross 34 (eagle on the 9th unbelievably). My head swelled as I walked across the road to the 10th and shot a 63 on the back 9 😂 – to anyone who hasn’t played it you have to before you can really appreciate the test.
Great vid James!
Don’t u think just gettin it up there – even in a bunker – with driver is the play on 12 if ur likely gona end up on a slope in the semi anyway?
Piece of piss here.
What a video
hated it
He's a range pro, bro.
I’ve played that course many times, but only from the yellow tees and it’s hard enough from those tees, let alone the whites!! I resign myself to the fact that my round score will probably ‘at least’ 6 more than I would normally shoot. It’s a beautiful course though and thoroughly recommend it, just don’t expect to shoot your best ever round 😄
