Under the Umbrellas | Jack and Barbara Nicklaus

Welcome to Under the Umbrellas, a daily conversational series diving into the Tournament’s iconic traditions, style and culture with host Kira K. Dixon.

In this episode, six-time Masters champion Jack Nicklaus and his wife Barbara share their Masters experience, telling stories from the many years of wins at Augusta National.

Since 1934, the Masters Tournament has been home to some of golf’s greatest moments. Amidst blooming azaleas, towering pines and flowering dogwoods, the first full week of April ushers in a stage unique to golf and to sport. Over four days and 72 holes, the smallest field in major championship golf competes for a chance to capture the Green Jacket and a place in Masters history.

  1. Around 9:00 when you can feel the liberal reporter pushing on how Barbara was important in his golf success, after he told her their conversations werent about golf it was about family and kids. Liberals are the absolute cancer of society.

  2. I will take out the trash if that means a job for next year. U.S. Marine Corps Camp Lejeune, N.C. Please let me know what I have to do?

  3. That day Jacks grandson made the ace was the most magical day of my life. It was my first Masters day with my wife and kids and we followed the three legends every shot. After a nice little chat with Barbara on 8 I was in that group of people on top of the hill behind 9 tee watching that special shot. You can almost see me.
My kid who was standing next to me made it to DcP the following year. My other kid got jack to sign a visor and when he saw Barbara signed it he said: you got the boss.
I mean how do you beat that ?

  4. Don't ever let Jack fool you. He may not know how many Masters off hand, but he could break down every shot of a particular round that happened 40-50 years ago with dead accuracy and acumen. Man is a thesaurus of his entire career and certain particular events that shaped his career. Oh and he's only designed a few hundred golf courses.

  5. Wow !! Just to think if Jacks mum turned up a bit more often how many more Masters he would have won 😊…fantastic interview

  6. WOW absolutely brilliant kira you are amazing great chemistry. What an amazing interview Kira oozes class, charm. Its like she' knows how special this is and execute it to perfection.

  7. As a Brit I can only admire Nicklaus. He is the greatest golfer of modern, if not all time. The duel in the sun must have been the greatest golf of my lifetime.

  8. Mustve been broccoli rabe..I don’t know if spelled correctly ..use to get it at a club i was a member of years ago ,cooked with oil and garlic and it was one of those “wow this stuff is great” surprises 😬👍🏼✌️

  9. 1986 will always be my favorite Masters. It was the year I was born and Jack at 46 showing the world one more time that he’s the greatest major champion of all time.

  10. Too bad you didn't ask them why they support a man who brags about grabbing women by the hoohaa, multiple count convicted Felon who led an attempted coup to overthrow an election….just to name a few of his many crimes….hmm, Jack, what are your reasons to support such a damaged human..?

  11. How can the interviewer not have done their due-diligence and not know how many times Nicklaus has been to The Masters?!… Thank you for this interview… but a bit disappointing.

  12. Family first.True class.
The 86 Masters, I still remember where I was on the final round back nine. Still get chills.
