I was lucky enough to play a round at the National on sponsors day that year (takes place about a month after the tournament)… will never forget walking from 12 to 13…. I was thinking about this shot and this birdie (shoulda been an eagle) and was going to retrace his steps.
Tragically, since I suck, I hit it in the trees on the other side of the creek down the left side of the fairway and spent most the hole looking for that errant tee shot (never did find it).
I was, however, able to stand in that same area and contemplate a shot from those same pine needles… but only because I hit my tee shot on 14 so far right that it ended up in the same place.
It was still amazing though. I’ll cherish that day forever, even if I had shot 150. Which I’m relatively sure I didn’t do.
Phil logic is different logic
On that day, he was so dialed in Phil couldve hit that ball with an umbrella and it would've landed on the green.
Ya that’s why I do.
Me explaining to my gf how I'm not cheating
Obviously he knows way more about golf than all of us combined or hope to ever know, but he could’ve laid up there pretty easily lmao. Tip of the cap for pulling it off that’s awesome
What a shot. Sheer magic
One of the best golf shots ever! Go Phil! 🎉🎉
Love Phil. Hope his YT career takes off the way Brysons did
Only Phil can verbalize what others can’t and what others can only feel.
that's why he's phil mickelson!
One of the greatest Master shots. After that shot I knew he'd win. Nae luck Lee Westwood
Love Phil
Imagine if this guy could have found a fairway how much he’d have won!
"I'm really just a degenerate gambler and risktaker."
He missed the putt though.
Like Phil I analyze every shot. Unlike Phil I f**k it all up.
So technical and it makes perfect sense.
Not only the best, most pressure filled, important, and risky shot of all time…..but hearing an EXPERT break down their craft is priceless!!!
The green angle is also why August #12 is so diabolical for most golfers (right handed).
DeChambeau is Phil re-incarnated, while Phil is still living…
Flushed 😮❤
I know everything he is saying is factually accurate. My success rate for such shots unfortunately is about 8%. So am I going for it? Well heck yes!!! EVERY TIME!!!! 👍👴🏌♂️⛳️🇺🇸🦅
My favorite shot of all time. Too bad he missed that putt. Ha
🤯
Hogwash.
I spend a RIDICULOUS amount of time in the trees…especially pine needles 😅. Bro dropping knowledge 😂
They never show him missing the putt lol
Call me crazy, but I’ve played a lot of golf in my life and watched a lot of golf too and I’ve never thought that this shot was really all that difficult for a player of his caliber. And hearing him explain it in technical terms kind of reinforced my opinion, especially when he admitted that he may have slightly pulled it.
My main argument is that he had a wide open shot to the middle of the green. The ball was sitting on pine needles, but these guys are good enough to hit off pine needles, so that shouldn’t have been a problem and then when it came to the tree, I think it was the camera angle. It looked like his swing was impeded by the tree but he was able to make a full swing without worrying about his club hitting the tree. Therefore, just aim at the middle of the green. Plus the green slopes to the right, which is where the pin was.
Seriously am I crazy?
I will never forget watching that shot on TV. Legendary!!
He was unfortunate to play at the same time as Tiger
If I did not know better I would say he is autistic, that was some a rain man thought process
A guy who absolutely destroyed his legacy in the latter part of his career. Stupid.
I was lucky enough to play in the FedEx St. Jude Pro Am about 20 years ago. The regional mgr of FedEx hosted a dinner for all us lucky SOBs the night before. Phil was there. Dude is scary intelligent, patient, and he actually asked me questions about Titleist products I played. This was when he was still with them, prior to Callaway and other more lucrative endorsements.
made the 4 foot putt?
That was a lucky shot Judas.
Ah. I get it now. 😂
Hefty!
It seems Professional golfers keep strategy and how they feel their hits land to themselves because they are playing against the folks who build courses so they keep their small advantages
I want some of what he’s on.😊
I like hearing the technical explanations.
