World Number Three Rory McIlroy went head-to-head with World Number One Scottie Scheffler in the Consolation Match at the WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, Texas.

Scottie Scheffler returns to Austin Country Club to defend his title at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. By doing so, he would become the first person since Tiger Woods in 2004 to do so. The event will see 64 players, split into 16 groups of four compete in a round-robin format. After this, the player with the most points advances to single elimination play. Eight out of nine of the top players in the world with Ryder Cup teammates Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy both teeing it up in Texas. The Spaniard has been grouped with Rickie Fowler who, despite not winning on tour in over four years could prove a formidable opponent, having made the cut in every PGA TOUR event in 2023. McIlroy won the event in 2015 in which was the last WGC Match Play before it moved from Harding Park, California to Austin, Texas. Other notable names to look out for include 2021 winner Billy Horschel, two-time winner Jason Day and World No. 9 Viktor Hovland.

Right then..both great players very likeable and competitive which is great.but all golf tours need to get rid of line off ball and obviously u can't put one on.its taking forever to read and line up putts .it's ridiculous!!Rory never used to be like that but watch him now..marks it has a look puts ball back leaves marker in another look pretented to putt take marker out have another look ….it's ridiculous and nearly everyone is doiyit now!!
Rory putting like this is dangerous
If Mcilroy holes his fair share of putts in a stroke play event, the event is over. If he putts like this at Augusta with his long game, he has to be one of the favorites.
Rory missed a simple putt on 18 to take Burns into extra holes, but pushed the 8 footer and missed the hole. That's the Rors; just cannot make pressure putts or non-pressure putts, so Augusta will expose the Royster for the great golfer he is not. But, he has a nice game; just loses a lot
Too bad Rory "Big Mouth" Mcilroy will be T55 and 11 shots off the pace at the Masters.
Someone should put all of Rory’s putts this week in a short form video. That would show what separates the tour pros from great golfers.

All these 4 guys today were hitting it 350 on every hole with lob wedge in most of the time. They should be making 10+ birdies every round, minimum.

Drive pitching wedge on a par 5.. and people don’t want to roll back the balls. Maybe it’s just my opinion but I’d like to see players struggle to hit the green on their second shot with a long iron or even hybrid

What a match this just shows how good Rory really is when he is on nobody can beat him not even the hottest player in golf and world number one the way he is playing especially driving the ball this just might be the year he completes the grand slam at Augusta can you imagine these 2 in the last group on Sunday at a major?
