1998 Open Championship, Royal Birkdale. A 17-year-old amateur named Justin Rose stood 45 yards short of the 72nd green, with a pot bunker between his ball and the pin. He holed it for birdie.

It was the last shot of his amateur career — he turned professional the very next day. He finished tied for fourth, the best result by an amateur at The Open since 1953, beating future stars including a 17-year-old Sergio García by ten shots. Tiger Woods finished third. Mark O’Meara won.

Rose would go on to win the 2013 US Open, Olympic gold, and reach World No. 1. But the shot he’s still most remembered for is the one he hit as a kid.
