100 Feet. Dead Center. Brooks Koepka “Dumb Luck” Chip In
2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open, TPC Scottsdale. Brooks Koepka was 100 feet from the hole on the par-4 17th. He pitched it, the ball took a few hops, and crawled into the cup for an eagle 2 that gave him the lead. David Feherty on the NBC broadcast: “Read it perfectly — wow.”
Brooks, a few days later on the Pardon My Take podcast, had a different take: “That was just dumb luck that it went in. Just real dumb luck, to be honest with you.”
It was his first win in over a year — after knee injuries had him wondering if he’d ever be the same golfer. Lucky and good.
