Former world number one Dustin Johnson has opted for a fresh but familiar face on the bag at this week’s Alfred Dunhill Lynx Championship in Scotland. Johnson is among 16 Elivy golf stars in the field joined by Brooks Kepka Cameron Smith and Bubba Watson. But in a notable change, the two-time major champion won’t have his brother and longtime caddy Austin Johnson by his side. Instead, he has enlisted the services of seasoned English caddy Gareth Lord. Lord is no stranger to success. He was on Henrik Stinson’s bag during the Swedes unforgettable 2016 Open Championship triumph at Royal Trune and spent five fruitful years alongside him before they parted ways in late 2018. More recently, Lord had been working with Nikolai Hajgard before the young Dne switched to Jack Clark, formerly LW Gabber’s Caddy. For Johnson, however, this partnership is strictly temporary. Speaking at the Old Course, Lord confirmed he will only be carrying Johnson’s bag for this week’s $5 million event. The 41-year-old Johnson is making his third start to the Alfred Dunnel links and he arrives in Scotland looking to build on late season momentum from Elivy Golf. After a quiet run, Johnson produced a solo third place finish at Elivy Golf Indianapolis and followed it up with AT5 at Elivy Golf, Michigan. Despite Eliv Golf’s season being over, Johnson has shown no intention of slowing down. Recently committing to the International Series Philippines next month, he explained his motivation. The International Series is a perfect fit for where I’m at in my career. Even though the LIV season is done, I still want to compete, stay sharp, and test myself against top players. Playing these events keeps me fresh and hungry while also helping grow the game in places that deserve to see it up close. This week’s Dunhill Links will also feature a strong European contingent, including four members of last week’s victorious Rder Cup team. Defending champion TL Hatton headlines alongside Matt Fitzpatrick, Robert McIntyre, and Tommy Fleewood as they return to the home of golf. The action te’s off Thursday across Carni, Kings Barnes, and the old course at St. Andrews, promising another showcase of worldclass golf in Scotland.
