Jack Nicklaus 1980 PGA Card
gum project. Man, I love these, you guys. So, the video is going to go fast, but I’ll walk you through it, all right? Because it does take a little bit of time. So, I’m like evaluating it here. I couldn’t get this gum to budge. The number one thing I’m telling you is don’t try to pick it off. So, welcome to the hot tub time machine. I put a little card spray in the in the holder and the uh you know, the card tray. Got it warm. And you just want to put the card in there like this and let it relax. you know, like it takes a couple minutes. So, you’ll see what I’m doing with my fingers. I’m just holding the card, making sure it’s not curling up. And gum is mainly just made of sugar oils, and it’s, you know, 45year-old gum. So, I just had to let it sit there. I want it to like break down the stains as much as possible without picking at it because these cards right here, this Jack Nicholas golf card, super thin, you know, of course, they’re cheaply made, you know, so you got to be careful with them. So, I let it sit for a few minutes, you know, and then what I’m talking about here with the foam brush is I’m going to need to use the foam brush to wipe off some of the residue. So, I just go in there real light and just like tap at it a little bit just to see if it’s been enough. And you see how it’s flaking up a little bit. So, that’s telling me that the card spray is breaking down the down the substance. So, that gives me the confidence to give it a little nudge like that. And since it moved, it’s like, let’s just get that thing out of there. So now, next step, you’re going to have some residue and some glue stains. Um, or some not glue stains, but you know, sugar stains. So, I just went in here and just gentle wipes across the front. You know, I’ll I’m sure I’ll flip it over here in a second and do the back. But that’s what you want to be careful with. Oh, right here. I was just getting a little detail Q-tip and touching a little bit of the pink staining. There was still a little bit of pink staining around some of the edges. So, my final movement on this card was just to flip it over. The perimeter had a little bit of stainage on it. So, just strategic little touches, letting it rest in the card spray. And then I moved on to the drying process. Shammies, pads, and plates, and some time. Traded out the shammy a few times. It’s a thin card, so it dried fast. But take these steps when you run into gum stains on your vintage paper cards. I hope this helps. So, I hope you have fun with it and I want you to enjoy your projects. I’m Kurt with Kurt’s Card Care. [Music]
