The four-time major champion who endured constant heckling throughout the event called the act unacceptable while praising Stole as a very strong woman for staying composed under pressure. Video footage showed Mroy wiping liquid from her cap before escorting her away from the scene. The incident drew mixed reactions with Bartool sports founder Dave Portoy branding Mroy an insufferable baby and accusing him of antagonizing the crowd despite conceding US fans went too far. Europe went on to clinch a hard-fought 15-13 victory with Mroy central to the win. Reflecting afterward, he urged that golf must be held to a higher standard and warned such hostility should not be repeated when Ireland hosts the 2027 Ryder Cup.
