No Sweat This Time: JT’s East Lake Finish & His Ryder Cup Confidence
Good Josh. Justin, how would you kind of sum up the week? Um, it’s kind of uh kind of summed up I feel like the you know the last couple months I feel like um just wasn’t wasn’t a consistent enough week. I I had a lot of signs of really really good um just a little bit of stretches of uh of just not sharp enough. But um I played really really solid today, especially the back nine. Uh which is great. I mean, it’s nice to to finish the day tournament season off, you know, playing some really quality golf and hitting some great golf shots in the last nine. So, um you know, it’s a good year. Couple years ago, uh you weren’t here and you had to sweat the phone call from the captain. How would you compare the feelings now to the feelings then as you’re waiting that phone call? Uh I don’t think there’s adjectives to compare the two. Um I was in I had what three weeks to to sweat it out really. Um I’m I I knew I needed a lot of luck. I needed you know I needed a lot more than I do right now I would say. Um I feel a lot better about my chances obvious I would hope and and obviously but um yeah that was uh it feels like forever ago and I’m glad it does. All right. How does it feel now? Feels now. Yeah. How would how would you compare the emotions of waiting the call now? Uh I mean it’s just it’s different. you know, obviously I’m I uh you know, being finishing I think it was like seventh or eighth or something like that in points and and feeling like you know, I’ve I’ve done done well in team events in past, but um obviously anything can happen, but I I mean, I feel Yeah, I I I feel pretty good about it. I mean, obviously it’s it’s all in the hands of of captain and and the other guys in the team, but uh but yeah, thanks guys. Appreciate it.
Justin Thomas closed the Tour Championship with a composed, quality back nine and a clear message to the Ryder Cup captain. After admitting the last couple of months weren’t consistent enough, JT says he “played really solid today… especially the back nine,” and he’s feeling good about his chances for a call—very different from the years he had to sweat it out.
In this interview, Thomas breaks down:
• What clicked in Round 4 and how he finished the season strong
• The contrast between past uncertainty and today’s confidence
• Why his team-event record and current form give him belief—while knowing the decision rests with the captain
