EVERY SHOT of Rory McIlroy’s Second Round | 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
Morning Dom. Very exciting. Great three ball to watch all morning here. Maroy can hit a few more fairways than yesterday. Four fairways only yesterday. Looks perfect. [Applause] He’s a seven iron as well. He finished with three birdies yesterday. Can it continue? Oh, it certainly can. What a golf shot. What a golf shot that is. My goodness me. Stopping short of the hole. Oo, we’re off and running. Dom, keep coming. Keep coming. Yeah, it was a stuttering performance, no doubt about it, from Rory yesterday. He was helped out big time by a barnstorming finish with birdies at 16, 17 and 18. Welld deserved bird under three under Little draw about 340 uphill. Gosh, she carried it 309 yds. You saw the Trackman trace and that’s gone bounding on as well. Two beautiful shots and Mar should get a read of SH bad day in the greens yesterday. 31 putts catching a few of them out but this is off the right and a cut right this one. Smashed it through the break. himself what five six feet coming back as well. Yeah, that was a really poor P from Marai. I don’t think Havlin scared him. Oh, well done. Huge drive. Beautiful second. Would have a catastrophic catastrophic three putt if you had but he didn’t. Go. Oh, go. No, that was a seven. I think it went that pleading voice when it’s in the air. 17 at Augusta. Took too much off. Excellent clap from M right. Two under for the day. Four under overall. You see there Perez has dropped one back to eight. So just four behind. Anywhere up the right hand side is fine. All the trouble is down the left. I can’t wait for the T forward there because it’s a fabulous hole when he can drive the green. Great start for Maroy. Two birdies already. It’s one of those days you can just birdie birdie birdie. That needs a bounce, doesn’t it? They’re applauding. He wasn’t his very best, was it? He’s aiming it straight. Aaroy. No, he’s aiming it right. Well, no. I got that terribly wrong. So did Rory turn. Sort of pulled it as well. Stays four under four behind our leader Victor Perez. Can’t think where there is a little bit of air into him. Just a little puncher here. Rory flag on the right by the wall. Yeah. [Applause] Almost. He’s got another one. What a start from Rory Mroy. Three birdies in the first five holes. Mroy to five under. And with Victor Perez dropping a shot at 18, Mroy is within two of the lead now. I almost said before he went birdie park, birdie part birdie. Yes. Right in the middle. Beautiful park. Great speed. He knew it was in dead center. It’s about right. Jamie, he’s looking a bit anxious. Oh, got a nice bounce. E. Oh, that was lovely. When it’s your day, it’s your day. There you go. How brilliant isn’t it from Rory M. What a start this has been. He has got that to go four under for his first six holes today. Exactly the sort of start he would have hoped for. Birdie power birdie power birdie birdie. Magnificent stuff from the grand slammer with two of Schmidt at the top. Oh, left. Oh my god. This has gone miles left flying. Just on the walkway where everyone walks off. Rory’s got a big bounce left. He’ll be all right. Good chance to get up and down depending on the lie. a skill that’s not see much of. Go on. Go on. Get over that hill down. Another ounce. Another ounce. That would have been stone dead. That’s the tricky part. Can you keep the momentum going? Yes. He can. What the poor dome. Good heavens. What a blistering start from Rory Mroy today. Five birdies in his first seven holes and Mroy is in a share of the lead. He’s launched it up in the air. Does he like it? Oh, don’t like to hear that. It went and it kept going. That’s a tricky one now. Mroy. First miss green today from Mroy. Needs to hurry a little. I’m talking about excellent Another excellent shot. Keeps that momentum going. He’s galloped up to the top of the board. Wasn’t it at some stage yesterday? We thought he was struggling for a lot of yesterday. I think we thought he was struggling. We we showed it earlier on the uh the bogey that he the bogey putt that he held at 15 after getting in a real mess in that fairway bunker. How important that was. It really was cuz it was a strange decision with the second Drive it down 18 for Macroy. This has got to be great miles. Oh, he’s let it go right. Mhm. 180 mph ball speed. The Trackman numbers. That’s a nice little bounce, isn’t it, Krikey? Things are going his way out there today. Nearly a fairway hit. 17. Looks like another pin to be just be slightly wary of doesn’t like it as he pushed it. I think it was straight. D just misruck below the ridge. Just lost a few yards with the strike. Just a reminder that even if you’re just about the best fair in the world, it’s not a guarantee that you get full distance every time. Got that all wrong. He really did quite the misread. You’d have to think it was that rather than a mis aim. No problem at all. Ruffled in nicely. He’s had a lot of those over the last two, three years, hasn’t he? He really has improved in in that department of the game. Yes. Never looks worried when he’s got the putter in his hand anymore. It’s 312 to carry the right bunker. Is it far enough right? He’s managed to avoid the bunker. We’ll find out. Third shot now into the opening or the par or first I should say. Almost too much spin. Outside chance of his par. He sizes it up behind, paints the picture in his mind and then just tries to execute. Sorry. Wonderful, isn’t it? He’s got great hands, David, hasn’t he? Around the green. He’s a wonderful He is a wonderful pitcher. He plays it very simply if he can. Much like Sheffler in a way, different action, but always look for the simplest, safest style of shot. Yeah, that’s a pretty simple one. This really is great line. First and foremost, these guys look for the line. It’s perfect. Just got to chip it onto the top and let it bleed down off the left hand side. It won’t turn a lot. Little bit. Quite an inviting little chip shot. He’s uh mixing. This is somebody not really paying attention. It’s not you can hear, Jamie. No, not me. I give out the way. I tried to. I’m just teasing. This might this might change the hole. This one a little light. Another few feet on it. Tap in distance, but it’s okay. Seven out of 10 for that one. This is barar stay seven under two behind. Chris got her up much in it. Well done. You used to know a year or two years ago you’d be watching hit like that and you’d be nervous. You think now I’m so full of confidence with him. He’s so so much improvement in this piping left and came out of it. Goodness gracious me. It’s extraordinary, isn’t it? I had a few of them yesterday, but we just saw a signal that found it. I didn’t do well to get it out of there for this next shot. Here he goes. Didn’t hit wood. He didn’t hit wood. Oh, it’s magnificent. Rory, now this would be the four of the century, David. Well, I was thinking five, but you’re right. Why not? Seven on four from right the right. The pin clearly reachable from there. So, not too much danger up around the green. He knew it. It needed a thrust forward when it landed quite get the bounce he was required. Oh my goodness. Oh, I so thought that was going to turn in. What a magnificent P from Moroy. And what a great five. [Applause] and just leaves the fairway, but semi- rough. No major problems there for Roy Moy. Looking to get another birdie here at the fourth like a perfect set up. He’s lying up and down. It’s online anyway. My goodness, it’s so far away. It’s 25 shorter though. It’s not stopped, is it? Come back down the hill. Can’t quite believe I’ve just seen that shot. Was eyeing it up and down like it was going to come down next to the hole. He loves a challenge. Rory won’t back off it, that’s for sure. He’s got another one. Gosh, that really has saved himself quite a few turns over the last few holes. So, he stays at seven under. Got her up charging ahead at the top. Fingers crossed. This is a tough one here to drive as far as Maroy hits. He’s got to take so much off it. We shall see. A very soft strike. It looks straight. A touch right. He took a lot off that turn. Yeah. Not sure how difficult that will be. Difficult to tell. We shall find out. He’s played that extremely well. Could easily have missed that slope done left. Beautifully played from Mroy again. No problem at all. First birdie of the home night for Rory Mackoy. So he advances to eight under positioning himself very nicely. Looks mystified. cuts right, slopes right and left that you don’t see. Might just a 2 and 1/2 ft. among three. Yeah, you I don’t think Rory can carry that uh bunker or Hoffland. Oh, he’s looking a little anxious. Yeah, we’re about to find out whether he can carry it or not, Jamie. No, I don’t think he would have done. It’s down the right. It’s fine. One down the right, one down the left. That’s magnificent. That’s perfect. Oh, that looks fantastic. He was posing, Jamie. Straight at it. High quality from the world number two. [Music] Oh, so close, Jimmy. So close. That’s a great bar. Maroy stays eight under par. Three shots off the lead with two holes of his second round of the Genesis Scottish Open to go. We’ve got some ooze down the right a little leaky. It’s okay. Just off the fairway in the rough. He’s gone the aerial route. Well, nearly just didn’t jump on him, did it? That will be a little bit longer than it looks from that camera angle. Oh, didn’t even touch the sides that sort of distance. That’s a poor one. [Music] I’m taking some responsibility for mentioning it, but not for that. That’s a bad miss, isn’t it? Yeah, it was a poor B. Straight push. That’s just not in his vocabulary at the moment. That was a bad one. Yeah, first bogey today as well from Mroy. So, he’s back to seven under alongside Cha. Four shots off the lead now. Lock the candle. Beautiful shot. Great camera angle there. Wasn’t that good? Little short. Good shot. A good part. Excellent put. It was a long puck for Birdie and it’s around a 65 for Rory Maroy and he was five under through the first seven holes. It promised to be a little bit better than that. In the end, he had to battle hard for the score. Seven under heading into the weekend. four shots at the moment of the lead. Mroy in the mix. Rory, day two, a 65. Seemed like you got off to a really solid start the opening nine and then it became a little bit more difficult in that second nine. Give us your perspective. Yeah. Uh, exactly right. Yeah, got off to a bit of a flyer. Um, the conditions were so benign this morning. hardly any wind and then the wind started to pick up a little bit on the on the back nine for us, but still, you know, very very manageable. Um, and yeah, I I started to struggle a little bit. Hit a couple of wayward drives. Um, but did well to to scramble for pars. Um, yeah, and then disappointing to drop one coming in there. But, uh, overall, you know, it’s a a really good score and, you know, puts me right into the thick of things going into the weekend. You talk about the driver. Sometimes you’re seeing the other players maybe a little bit more um held back off the tea. They’re hitting an iron, you’re getting the driver out and maybe a little bit more aggressive. You could perhaps give us some insight into your strategy off the tea and what you are struggling with sometimes. Yeah. Um yeah, like the first hole which was our 10th for example, the two boys hit um iron off the tea to stay short of that bunker on the on the right. Um I feel like if I hit a good drive, I can get a pass there and get a wedge in my hand, especially to a front pin. Um, so it really depends on the hole and where the pin is and you know if you feel like it’s accessible with a mid iron then you can maybe lay back but a pin like the first today um getting a wedge in your hand is is would be pretty nice. But um yeah, I you know the rough isn’t too bad. So I I feel like the more aggressive you can be and you know honestly the you know being aggressive off the tea on on Lynx golf courses and taking the bunkers out of play if the rough isn’t too bad has always been a pretty good strategy for me. So um I’m sort of you know sticking with that for for the week and you know it’s sometimes it gets you in trouble but but most of the time it works out pretty well. You’re in a great position heading into the weekend. Well done. Thank you. To watch another DP World Tour video click here. And to subscribe, click here.
