Dude was totally honest. Much credit to jt
This self imposed penalty is what separates the sport of golf from all others.
While players in the NBA, NFL almost always deny vehemently any call against them, honest golfers (not Reed) will penalize themselves and error on the side of the penalty.
Good job Justin and all honest golfers!
My left ear fully understands the situation. Thank
Looks like Sam Sneed's great grandson.
Same kind of controversy involving Stewart Cink and Ted Purdy at this same golf tournament on this same course back in 2004.
On the 5th hole of a sudden death playoff with Purdy, Cink drove it into the sandy "waste area" on the left side of #16. Cink proceeded to very carefully manicure his lie in the "waste area", arguably moving more than just "loose impediments" in the sand, and in the process left himself an improved, perfect lie. Rules official Slugger White told Cink what he could do, and Cink took "full" advantage. The grainy TV footage available back then left many viewers very uncomfortable with what Cink did. Incredibly, Cink then proceeded to knock his 75 yard lob wedge shot to a few feet, he made birdie, and won the tournament. That win, frankly, is tainted IMHO. Purdy was absolutely robbed, but he was gracious in defeat, and instead of complaining, only complimented Cink for making so many birdies that day. In fact, Purdy had a similar shot in a waste area on #15 in regulation, but didn't didn't improve his lie like Cink. He made bogey, and that forced a playoff.
Look it up on YT. The footage is there and what Cink did is as close to the "c" word as it gets in golf. And yes, this is important. Rules of golf are meant to protect the field. YouTube commenters who don't get it or don't care, and who are apathetic to the rules of golf should find some other form of entertainment. Integrity matters.
Jt the man
That beard is a bummer
Justin Thomas is a REAL golfer. Not just interested in $$$ but in his legacy and the ethos of golf. A REAL American unlije hus President who is a cheat at golf.
JT let's goo you wanna win this one
I wonder what Reid would do in that situation 😂
The ball moved .0005 of a millimeter !!!!! … JT is HONESTY AND INTEGRITY 💯 !!!!!!!! … cheering for your win Sir !!!!!
No one is talking about the dumbass move in trying to move some pebbles around the ball where the lie wasn't all that bad in the 1st place.
I believe the great Bobby Jones penalized himself in one tournament, when no one, including the judge saw an issue with the ball placement
I can think of another US player now on the LIV that wouldn’t have called a penalty shot. Credit to JT for protecting the integrity of the sport.
Great example. Some other players would have left it. You know who I am talking about.
JT is a class act, plays the game as the rules dictate. Could you imagine Patrick Reed doing the same ?
Now go and win it , being honest shows how great the guy is.
WWPRD? What would Patrick Reed Do?
Luv doesn’t play that waaaaaaa
