The TOUR tees it up at Colonial Country Club for the second time following a hearty renovation effort that was unveiled last year. Joining the three-time major champion, are Harris English and David Riley, both of whom finished tied second at the PGA Championship. I would never trust that rules official; he looks too much like an MLB umpire!🤣
10 minutes to hit a shot? RATE OF PLAY…RATE OF PLAY…RATE OF PLAY!
A rules official telling a pro that he isn’t capable of hitting a golf shot is hilarious
Folder will choke on Sunday
The pro are getting to much help from marshalling they should only be there to observe not to help with rules there pro so should be able to make a decision themselves
Ill watch this video to help me fall asleep every night
Doesn’t matter if the fence is out of bounds fence, it’s man made and interferes with swing or stance, so he shoulda received relief.
The PGA Tour is junk golf. No logic other than paying millions of dollars to a few golfers. And where do they get those millions of dollars? From stupid golfers that pay insane money to buy new clubs every year.
Finally, at 10:15 we received a cohesive answer… good grief
Is it me or is the fence leaning where he is at…if so that’s a lucky break
An inch is a mile for a pro. I witnessed Louis Oosthuizen play a ball 1/2” off a cart path simply because he had a good line. Picked it clean and stuck it on the green. An official deciding what is reasonable for a pro is unreasonable.
And…they are all about growing the game.
He should have gotten relief, bad call. However, I think when Ricky said at 00:50 "would I choose to play that shot, I'm not sure", it created doubt in the mind of the rules official to think he wouldn't normally play the shot and thus didn't deserve relief. Once the option was removed, Ricky in fact did decide it was his best option but the ruling had been made.
Bet you a buck next year. The ROAD will be the OB maker.
Ricky should have said the fence was a "temporary immovable object" since it isn't a natural obstruction, then he could move it 60+ yards in any direction he felt like that had the best line to the hole because, you know, tournament rules make sense. /s
he should have gotten relief. What if it was in the middle of the fairway, standing on the cart path, ball next to a cart path curb or wall. he would have gotten relief. he can't compare what shot he would play with or without the fence there. the shot is played based on the situation and if he could play a shot. the ref's was wrong. He played the shot as is. so the shot was playable and since he was standing on the cart path he should have gotten relief.
He did hit the fence. You can hear the zing from the club running along the fence.
That shot he made is why he is out there and not us.
Only a player can determine when a ball is unplayable according to the rule book. Right? So how in the world does a rule official get to tell a player or even suggest that he couldn’t play a certain shot? That is embarrassing especially after Rickie makes the shot. That official should be suspended without pay. I hope he doest work majors.
Awful ruling
Rico is incorrect, it was NOT against the fence it was an inch from the fence and he never touched the fence when he made the swing! Clearly, he should have been granted relief!
PGA sucks, that was a bad call by the officials.
Why is Rickie carrying his thermostat. He keeps walking around with it, like it’s some trophy. I have never seen that before. Most players, they will take a drink and then put it back in the golf bag. Not Rickie, he keeps it with him as if it has value, some Diamond ring or something.
This is a service road. Not a cart path. Offline tee shot does not get relief.
I don't agree with the officials ruling. To my understanding the basic determinant is would the player play the ball from that lie if what he wants relief from wasn't present. If the ball was deep in a thick bush the odds are that a reasonable player would not attempt to extricate the ball from the bush. But a ball an inch from a fence is not particularly difficult for a professional, especially with a short iron. I think the officials blew this call. Ricky said he would play the ball as it lie, even if the path weren't present. I think he qualified for free relief from the path and should have been given relief.
And we wonder how rounds become slow
