PGA Championship Preview
hey everybody it’s major championship week and I thought I’d give you a little data driven preview of Valhalla as the Golf World Turns its eyes to Louisville Kentucky three-time host of the PJ Championship as well as the 2008 Ridder cup and also the site of my favorite golf highlight of all time this walked in putt no not that one this one thank you very much very cool golf course par 71 just under 7500 yards and redesigned by uh Jack Nicholas in the early 2010s fun fact from our friend at golfstats.com this is one of only two golf courses designed by Jack Nicholas to host a major championship very much favors driving distance one of the top 10 courses on tour to do so back in 2014 as you can see by data golf’s course fit tool here that dotted line is the average course and that top little corner there is just how much distance matters in 2000 Tiger Woods averaged 35 yards off the te and this guy averaged 329 yards both of them on route to Victory now driving distance isn’t the only key especially with the poor weather it’s probably going to rain it’s going to be soft ball striking key because if you miss a green it’s basically a coin flip now who am I picking gonna get this in before it starts I’m going with the recently single Rory maroy he’s coming off a win and you know who won the last major championship when Roy was single was hosted at a golf course called Valhalla and it was that guy enjoy we’ll see you tomorrow
Its the eve of the 106th PGA Championship at Valhalla and we should be in for a doozy. A course like this keeps the top of the leaderboard tight, and for whatever reason Valhalla delivers. In 2000 Tiger fought off Bob May in an epic 3-hole playoff and then 14 years later Rory McIlroy won his most recent major title fending off Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler in almost total darkness on the final hole. Here’s my quick data-driven preview, and I’ll be posting throughout the weekend with some notes and key holes as the tournament progresses.
