The year 2002 marked a watershed moment when Michelle, on the verge of puberty, qualified for the LPGA’s Takefuji Classic, making her the youngest golfer ever to qualify for an LPGA event and setting the stage for her historic semifinal appearance at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links. Amidst her academic pursuits at Punahou School, a prestigious private academy in Honolulu, Michelle began devoting more time to golf training in the spring of 2002. Her journey took her to the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

  1. I subbed just for this story. The best story told in a remarkable way. She was such a joy to watch play and she made a huge difference in women's golf.
BTW, she could still pick up the sticks and win…She's just that good

  2. 0:11 beating most pros on the tour? STFU! She made one cut in an Asian men's tournament that was cut short due to bad weather. She NEVER beat most pro men! She is absolutely one of the best female golfers of all time but NEVER beat most men. Is honesty a lost art?

  3. 0:01 Wie exploited herself, and she did not need anyone's help in doing so. She, and her family, somehow thought she could actually compete on the men's tour. That was a misconception on a grand scale, and diverted her attention from the LPGA where it should have been. Talk about diverting one's talent and energy in the wrong direction. So stop with the conspiracy theory and point the finger where it should point – at Wie herself.

  4. Wie is on the obsessive compulsive spectrum. She could have been the Taylor Swift of golf but her obsession with perfection and control to an unhealthy degree, her not being diagnosed or treated brought her down. I have tried to say hello in person but she snubbed me, she snubbed everyone except her team. She suffered from overthinking, over control, over perfection. The symptom that took her down was inability to change or learn, common. She needed a mental health coach that would diagnose her and show her how to use behavior therapy to do better.

  5. "Keep watching the entire video to see how Michelle dealt with all the issues in her career"

and that says enough right there.

  6. She was giving away big sums of money before she actually ever became anyone in golf. That is something with this game you never want to do. I told my oriental friends about that and none of them agreed with me. But in the end I was exactly right. With golf you never want to have to live up to something before you actually do it.
