In the opening round of the 2023 Hero World Challenge, Tiger Woods made his first start since the 2023 Masters, carding a 3-over 75, while Brian Harman and Tony Finau both turned in 5-under 67’s to tie for the lead after 18 holes heading into Friday.

The PGA TOUR heads to Albany in The Bahamas for the Hero World Challenge in what is an exceptionally strong field on New Providence Island. 82-time PGA TOUR winner Tiger Woods returns for the first time since teeing it up at the Masters Tournament seven months ago. He made two TOUR starts earlier this year, finishing T45 at The Genesis Invitational before making the cut at the Masters. Woods says he is pain-free coming into the tournament after his ankle fusion in April. Viktor Hovland will also be at Albany to defend his title once again as he aims for a three-peat. The reigning FedExCup champion has not teed it up on the PGA TOUR since his triumph at East Lake Golf Club, but he played twice on the DP World Tour this fall, finishing T5 at the BMW PGA Championship and T2 at the DP World Tour Championship. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will tee it up for the first time since the Ryder Cup. Scheffler has finished second at the Hero World Challenge the last two years. Max Homa also returns to action with a run of five-straight top-10s on the PGA TOUR. He’s finished in every top-25 since missing the cut at the Travelers Championship in June. Others to look out for are Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and Collin Morikawa.

  2. I've never been a huge Tiger fan; however, I never wanted the guy to go through what he has been going through health-wise. I like this new Tiger, though. His play style is very different from when he was a young man. He is more calculated with his decisions and attitude. His style is leaner and uses a controlled strength. Plus, his leadership is even more valuable since he sets a standard for Charlie, who looks to be a talented young man.

  14. I've never been a huge Tiger fan, however, he has had some problems, but I have admired his leadersip in terms of an old victory in terms of his own integrity of his old future as a controlled strength.

  21. Tiger might be the only athlete in history to have such a massive following regardless of past mistakes. Says a lot about his true character. We’re all human, but at the end of the day, the public can sniff out the bad apples so quickly. Tiger is just special.

  22. Tiger played unbelievably well for the first time since April. With the health issues on top of everything he did fantastic. Was even and 1 under majority of the round. We shouldn’t take for granted anymore when you see his name on a card. Don’t know how much more we got left of the best to ever do it.
