On the range at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic Patrick Reed tried to greet Rory McIlroy after subpoenaing Rory in December on Christmas Eve for Reed’s lawsuit against many people in golf. Rory rebuffed and did not acknowledge Reed, Patrick then flicks a tee at Rory McIlroy…The tee flip was harmless, but another mark against Patrick Reed’s already poor reputation in golf.
Patrick & Rory were at the top of the leaderboard all week at the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour, and late in the 3rd round Patrick Reed drove his ball into a palm tree on the 17th hole. There were 3 palm trees grouped together, Reed certifying that his ball went into the 3rd tree that gave him the most advantageous drop and clear line of sight to the hole. Using binoculars to assist in the identification process, Reed asserted his ball markings. Video tracked the ball into the closest palm in the group. Reed is no stranger to questionable rules discussions that video proves that he is in the wrong.
Rory McIlroy went on to shoot a -4 final round to win the Hero Dubai Desert Classic by one stroke over Patrick Reed as he went -7. A perfect ending to foil Patrick Reed, as the discussion had Patrick Reed pulled out the win would certainly be contentious given his self governing his own lost ball.
